Frequently Asked Questions

MBBS in China - Your Questions Answered

Everything you need to know about studying medicine in China

Is MBBS degree from China valid in Pakistan?
Yes! MBBS degrees from WHO and PMDC (now PMC - Pakistan Medical Commission) recognized Chinese universities are valid in Pakistan. After completing your 6-year program, you must pass the NMC Screening Test (FMGE) conducted by National Medical Commission to practice medicine in Pakistan. We provide complete guidance and coaching for this licensing exam. Over 45 Chinese medical universities are recognized by PMC including Jiangsu University, China Medical University, Dalian Medical University, and Nanjing Medical University.
Do I need NEET or any entrance test for MBBS in China?
No! Pakistani students do NOT require NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) or any other entrance exam to study MBBS in China. Admission is purely merit-based on your FSc/A-Levels marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Universities require minimum 60% aggregate (some accept 50%). You only need to clear a basic English language interview conducted by the university. This makes China an excellent option for students who couldn't secure admission in Pakistani medical colleges or don't want to appear in MDCAT.
What is the total cost of completing MBBS in China?
The total cost for 6-year MBBS program in China ranges from PKR 70-120 lakhs depending on university and city. This includes: Tuition fees: USD 3,000-6,000 per year × 6 years = USD 18,000-36,000 (PKR 50-100 lakhs). Living expenses: USD 400-800 per month × 72 months = USD 28,800-57,600 (PKR 80-160 lakhs, but shared if living frugally). Other costs: Visa fees, flight tickets (PKR 150,000 round trip), medical insurance, books. Total: PKR 70-120 lakhs for complete degree. This is significantly cheaper than private medical colleges in Pakistan (PKR 150-300 lakhs) or studying in UK/USA (PKR 500+ lakhs). Plus, you can apply for CSC Scholarship which covers 100% tuition + living stipend!
Is the medium of instruction English or Chinese?
The entire MBBS program is taught in English medium at recognized Chinese medical universities. All lectures, textbooks, exams, and clinical training are conducted in English by international faculty and experienced Chinese professors who speak fluent English. You do NOT need to learn Mandarin Chinese to study medicine. However, universities offer free Chinese language classes (1-2 hours per week) to help you communicate with local patients during clinical rotations and integrate into Chinese society. Basic Chinese is helpful for daily life activities like shopping, ordering food, and making local friends, but it's not mandatory for your medical studies.
What is the duration of MBBS program in China?
The MBBS program in China is 6 years long, structured as follows: Year 1: Pre-medical/Foundation (Basic sciences, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry) + Chinese language classes. Year 2-3: Pre-clinical subjects (Pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, etc.). Year 4-5: Clinical subjects (Medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology, etc.) with hospital rotations. Year 6: Full-time clinical internship in affiliated teaching hospitals with hands-on patient care across all departments (medicine, surgery, OB/GYN, pediatrics, emergency, etc.). Some universities offer 5-year programs (without internship) but we recommend 6-year programs as they provide better clinical exposure and are preferred by PMC for licensing. The program follows international medical curriculum standards similar to MBBS in Pakistan, India, and UK.
How is the visa process for studying in China?
Chinese student visa (X1 visa) process is very straightforward with 100% approval rate for Pakistani students. No embassy interview required! Process: 1) Receive admission letter and JW202 form from university. 2) Get medical examination at designated hospital. 3) Prepare documents (passport, photos, financial statement, admission letter, JW202). 4) Submit application at Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) in Islamabad or Karachi. 5) Visa processed in 5-7 working days. X1 visa is valid for 30 days single entry. After arriving in China, university helps you convert it to Residence Permit valid for 1 year (renewable annually). Visa fee: approx. PKR 12,000. We provide complete visa assistance including documentation, form filling, and appointment scheduling. Pakistan-China diplomatic relations are excellent, so visa approval is guaranteed if documents are in order!
What about accommodation and food for Pakistani students?
Accommodation: Universities provide on-campus dormitories for international students. Options: Shared rooms (2-4 students): USD 150-300/month with AC, WiFi, bathroom, study desk. Single rooms: USD 300-500/month. Dorms have common kitchen, laundry, recreational areas. Many students move to off-campus apartments in 2nd-3rd year (USD 200-400/month shared). Food: Most universities have halal cafeterias on campus serving Pakistani/Indian cuisine (biryani, nihari, karahi, roti). Cost: USD 3-5 per meal. Halal restaurants and Muslim-owned eateries near campus. Chinese supermarkets stock halal meat. Students also cook in dorm kitchens. Monthly food budget: USD 150-250. Cities with large Muslim populations (Xi'an, Lanzhou, Urumqi) have more halal options. Prayer facilities: Mosques near campus or prayer rooms in dormitories. Active Pakistani/Muslim Student Associations organize events and provide support.
Can I work part-time while studying MBBS in China?
Officially, international students on X1 visa are NOT allowed to work in China according to Chinese immigration law. However, there are legal opportunities: 1. On-campus jobs: Universities allow students to work as teaching assistants, library assistants, or peer tutors (10-15 hours/week) with permission. Pay: RMB 50-100/hour. 2. Internships: Paid medical research internships or summer programs (during vacations only). 3. Online work: Many Pakistani students do freelancing (graphic design, content writing, tutoring Pakistani students online) which is technically allowed. 4. Post-graduation: After completing MBBS, you can apply for work permit if you secure a job in Chinese hospital or clinic. Recommendation: Focus on studies in first 2-3 years as MBBS is demanding. In later years with lighter schedule, you can explore on-campus opportunities or online work to earn pocket money. Most students rely on family support for living expenses (USD 400-800/month is manageable).
What is CSC Scholarship and how can I apply?
CSC (Chinese Government Scholarship) is a fully-funded scholarship for international students pursuing undergraduate, master's, or PhD degrees in China. For MBBS students, it covers: Benefits: 1) 100% tuition fee waiver for entire program, 2) Monthly living stipend: RMB 2,500-3,000 (USD 350-420), 3) Free on-campus accommodation, 4) Comprehensive medical insurance, 5) One-time settling allowance. Value: Total worth USD 25,000-35,000 for 6-year MBBS! Eligibility: Non-Chinese citizen, age under 25, FSc with 70%+ marks (competition is high), good academic record, no criminal history.
